I find it a very bizarre point of view because everything I have read tells me the opposite is true -- that research into diseases that primarily take a toll on women lags far behind those that impact men.

Anyway, HIV does not distinguish between men or women, nor developed or developing world. Allocation of medical resources, however, is not equal, which is why these trials are being conducted by the Microbicide Trials Network, which exists to make sure the developing world can benefit from the latest drugs.

HIV is ravaging the developing world now, and the least empowered among this group are women. VivaGel, if proven safe and effective, could give women in the developing world something that resembles control over their health.

But, never fear, Michael. I just read a press release that VivaGel might be available for that long-suffering, underserved population -- men -- as well. Just remember to do what your mother always told you before you go stomping around in the rain: Wear your rubbers.Howard Lovyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04901713018468508005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5554620.post-83184872366251614332007-10-16T01:10:00.000-04:002007-10-16T01:10:00.000-04:00Sigh, "development is being promoted by the world ...Sigh, "development is being promoted by the world health community worried about the spread of HIV among women". As usual, the attitude of the elites is that men don't matter.

Meanwhile, mostly men are doing the researching, inventing, developing, and financing of stuff that will be used to save women. How ironic.

Anyway, I wish the best of success to those who are working on making dendrimers into commercial products.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
